Adjustment controls on rifle scopes

Most rifle scopes come with adjustment controls. These controls are meant to help the user get the most accurate shot possible. The most common types of controls are focus controls, elevation controls, wind controls, and magnification controls.

Focus controls

Focus controls are controls that help focus the scope. Once you have purchased the scope with all the correct dimensions for your use, you will have to bring the image into focus while using the scope. This focus might need to be changed based on weather conditions, how tired your eyes are that day, and where you are looking. Leupold rifle scopes have easy to use focus controls.

Elevation controls

Elevation controls allow the used to adjust for the elevation of the rifle. Most rifles possess a control that will allow the user to adjust the scope and sights for use in a variety of elevations. This refers to the elevation of the shooter, not the elevation of the location.

Depending on where the shooter is placed in relation to their prey or target, the elevation controls may need to be used. Trijicon scopes have excellent elevation controls that even prevent the user from dropping the scope below the zero level.

Wind controls

Wind controls are also called horizontal controls. When scopes are mounted on a rifle, they look forwards, over the barrel of the rifle. When there is wind, you will need to adjust your aim so the bullet will travel to the correct spot even with the wind. More advanced scopes, like Leupold rifle scopes, offer wind and horizontal adjustments.

Magnification controls

Scopes are used for magnification. Scopes have a range of magnification abilities. In order to adjust your scope for the precise magnification level you need, you will need to use the magnification controls on the scope.
